peninsula overnight. an officer was forced to make a split second decision on whether to use deadly force. noelle walker is live to explain what happened. good morning, noelle. >> reporter: good morning. about 30 seconds ago a police car pulled up and we have officers looking around the area. all of this happened an hour before the clerk arrived for his shift. now at 9:00 last night a south san francisco police officer tried to do what police called a field interview with two suspects outside the station. we don't know what the suspects were suspected of doing or why the officer wanted to talk to them. but we do know it ended with the officer firing his gun. killing one suspect. >> during that contact one of the suspects started running from the officer. the officer gave chase. after a short foot pursuit, the suspect turned and at some point the firearm was removed from the suspects person by the

suspect himself. the officer reacted. fired a single shot. >> reporter: now the clerk here tells us the arco station surveillance cameras did not catch the shooting. coming back here live we have a police officer with his flash out in the area where all this happened at 9:00 last night. and then another on the other side of the fence looking for evidence. police found that suspects gun here at the scene and the gun was never fire. the other suspect in this case is cooperating. reporting live in south san francisco noelle walkerren if 4:32 this morning. we are tracking election results in the presidential primary. mitt romney easily won the support of republican voters here in california while president obama ran oppose.

president obama will be in san francisco later this summer. in the meantime we are following the results of proposition 29. 50.8% have approved prop 8. 49.2% are against it so far. lorraine blanco joins us live from san leandro with a race that really too close to call still? >> reporter: yeah, it is too close to call. this morning the nose on prop 29 are ahead by as little as 63,000. if this sticks smokers won't pay an extra if the tax on cigarettes is $0.87. prop 29 would raise it to $1.89. that would raise $7 million for cancer research. >> it's something we are all

concerned about. >> reporter: outspent the campaign putting more than $60 million into ads. as we said before it's too close to call this morning. it has been deck and neck for awhile. hopefully we'll get results later on today. lorraine blanco channel 2 news. >> and as we mentioned earlier mitt romney won the support of california republican voters. romney has 79.6% of the vote. ron paul has 10%. despite winning in california he also won in montana, new jersey, new mexico, and jack yesterday. only one presidential primary he mains. that is use.

in less than ten minutes. president obama arrives here in the bay area later to attend a couple san francisco fundraisers. the president is scheduled to land at sfo at 11:45 this morning. at 12:20 he is expected to take part in a round table event. at 2:15 he will deliver remarks at a luncheon. and the merchants exchange building. at 3:15 air force one is scheduled to leave for los angeles. political observers say the money the president raises here in california will be spent in other state states. >> the assumption is the democrats will carry california and november. we'll be out to raise money and go out and spend it. in iowa, ohio, and pennsylvania and other states. >> president obama was in the bay area just two weeks ago for a fundraising swing that raised $4 million. we have complete election results on both ktvu.com and as

you have noticed at the bottom of your screen you'll find realtime returns for every bay area community. family and friends of an emeryville teenager say her death could serve atz a wake -- as a wake up call to every young woman. she was found shot to death in the families home monday afternoon. they suspect her boyfriend is responsible for her killing. they say he would take away her cell phone in an attempt to control her. >> she called me crying like two weeks ago. crying because he pushed her. called her names. bad names. >> i just want to know why. what could she have done to make you so mad? >> police say they are looking for jones' boyfriend but not releasing any other details. volunteers are beginning a new search for sierra lamar. they will check in at burnett

be competing for the 15th district. they finished first and second in the primary. conservative chris finished a distant third. and dianne feinstein will go up against a republican from danville in november. elizabeth came in second ahead of 22 other candidates. feinstein won 50% of the votes. son jose vetters haved -- measure b puts the limit of retirement benefits san jose must pay its workers. under the measure new employees -- >> it's going to save the city of san jose millions of dollars. that is rell important to see. so we can return services.

skies are clear. temperatures today will warm up. 60s coast and bay. upper 60s to near 70 inland. a few inland locations close to 80. >> thank you. 4:46. wisconsin governor scott walker has survived a recall election. last nights victory allows governor walker to finish his term and endorses his strategy to curb state spending. this includes a measure to eliminate union rights for more public workers. an idea that triggers the recall in the first place. his challenger democratic mayor burnett says the recall has divided the state.

>> please, please remain engaged. remain involved because we will continue to fight for justice and fairness in this city and this state. >> tonight we tell wisconsin. we tell our country and we tell people all across the globe that voters really do want leaders who stand up and make the tough decisions. >> this is historic. it's the first time ever a state governor has survived a recall effort. analysts say walkers victory could give republicans a boost to make wisconsin a battleground state come november. san mateo county voters rejected two tax measures and a third is too close to call. measure t was ahead by only 62 votes with all precincts reporting last night. that could change when mail in ballots are counted. it would impose a 2.5% tax of revenue of car rental companies. that includes san francisco

international airport. about 54% of voters said no to measure u. it would increased the hotel tax from 10-12% in unincorporated areas of san mateo county. and they also turned down measure x which would have taxed parking lots. all three measures require a simple majority to pass and together would have raised $13 million for the county. many california voters stayed home on election day. traffic was slow throughout the day at many polling sites including this one at walnut creek. steve we're called turnout for the primary anemic. the lack of hot button issues kept many at home. >> this is the lowest we've had for a presidential election in the last 30 years. >> wier says most were from mail in ballots.

supporters called for a stand and says he does not represent the vast majority of the community. alameda supervisors are having trouble who should replace nadia lockyer on the board. the remaining supervisors are split between hiring new york city council woman anna and former union city council woman richard. if they fail to replace lockyer by june 19th it will be up to governor jerry brown to name someone. new this morning officials in afghanistan say 20 people were killed in a bombing in one of the countries largest cities. it happened in a market in kandahar. at least 22 others were wounded. all of the victims were civilians. a spokesman says the bomb was placed in a vehicle in an area where shopkeepers have supplies.

jury selection continues today in the child molestation charge for jerry sandusky there is a new allegation against him. he is accused of writing love letters to a victim. victim number four will read the letter in court. he will be the first witness and tell how sandusky gave him gifts including a set of golf clubs. nine jurors have already been seated in the case. a cup of coffee may give you more of a morning jolt. linking coffee to improving your memory.

valley. a lot of low 50s here. if it wasn't for the north wind santa rosa would be much, much cooler. here is the low that went boot scooting out of the picture. it will allow temperatures to recover after very cool readings yesterday. sunny and warmer today. breezy at times. i'm reluctant to jump temperatures up ten degrees. we will see sunshine and temperatures about seven to eight degrees warmer. 60s and 70s and very, very low 80s. clear lake we will go 80 degrees. even though that is above some of the forecasted projections. 76 petaluma. 77 napa. fairfield 79. low 80s brentwood. oakland 68. danville 78. one 80 here in gilroy. santa clara is in there. 70s on the peninsula. 74 should cover most of the spread.
